Marella Discovery 2 (built in 1995 as "Legend of the Seas", formerly "TUI Discovery 2", last refurbished in October–November 2024) is one of Royal Caribbean’s Vision-class cruise ships. Her sister ships include Splendour of the Seas (now Marella Discovery), as well as Enchantment of the Seas, Grandeur of the Seas, Rhapsody of the Seas, and Vision of the Seas. In spring 2017, the vessel joined the Marella Cruises fleet, following her sister ship Splendour. Marella’s fleet was further expanded with the addition of former TUI Cruises ships Mein Schiff 1 (renamed Marella Explorer in 2018) and Mein Schiff 2 (now Marella Explorer 2, since 2019).
The Legend of the Seas / TUI Discovery 2 / Marella Discovery 2 deck plan includes a total of 915 staterooms accommodating 1,832 passengers (maximum capacity 2,198), served by 730 crew members. The ship has 11 decks (10 accessible to passengers, 5 with cabins), 8 restaurants, 8 bars and lounges, 2 swimming pools, 4 Jacuzzis (outdoor whirlpools), and 9 elevators. Among the dining venues, 4 serve breakfast, 7 offer lunch, and 7 serve dinner. Two specialty restaurants operate with an additional charge and feature themed cuisine experiences.
Note: CruiseMapper’s Marella Discovery 2 deck plan page also includes floor plans of the original Legend of the Seas (Royal Caribbean).
Legend of the Seas 2013 Refurbishment Review
The ship’s last Royal Caribbean drydock refurbishment took place in January–February 2013 in Singapore. This major project, costing around USD 50 million, was one of the most extensive refits in the industry. The upgrades and modifications included:
- Addition of 13 new cabins (on decks 7 and 8).
- Conversion of all Deck 6 Oceanview cabins into balcony cabins.
- Refurbishment of all staterooms with new décor, carpeting, soft furnishings, and flat-screen TVs; all public areas were also renovated.
- Upgrade of shipwide Wi-Fi coverage (from bow to stern).
- Installation of Digital Wayfinders—multilingual LCD touchscreens located near most passenger elevators, displaying daily schedules, promotions, deck plans, menus, and navigation directions.
- Addition of two new lounges on Lido Deck 9—Concierge Club and Diamond Club—and the complimentary Park Café (a bistro-style eatery) in the Solarium (indoor pool area).
- Expansion of dining options with new venues: Chef’s Table (VIP dining room within the Main Dining Room on Promenade Deck 5), and Deck 11’s Chops Grille (steakhouse & seafood) and Izumi (Asian/Japanese cuisine). The Viking Crown Lounge on Deck 11 was remodeled and slightly reduced in size to accommodate these restaurants.
- Creation of Royal Caribbean’s Nursery on Sports Deck 10.
- Introduction of the new Centrum Atrium aerial acrobatics entertainment program.
- Addition of the retro-themed R Bar (1960s style) on Deck 4.
- Installation of a large outdoor movie screen on the Lido (Pool) Deck 9.
The 2017 drydock transformation from “Legend of the Seas” to “TUI Discovery 2” was carried out at the Navantia Shipyard in Cadiz, Spain (April–May 2017).
