Sisak is a city in central Croatia situated at the confluence of Kupa, Odra and Sava rivers, 57 km (35 miles) southeast of the capital of Croatia, Zagreb. The city's population in 2011 was 47,770 of which 33,320 live in the urban settlement. Sisak is also the administrative centre of Sisak-Moslavina County, the biggest river port in Croatia and a centre of river shipping industry. It lies on M12.2, the main road Zagreb-Sisak-Petrinja, and the railroad Zagreb-Sisak-Sunja. The city is a regional historical, economic and cultural center. Croatia's largest oil refinery is located here.

Sports and recreation facilities in Sisak and the surroundings include primarily the waters and alluvial plains public beach on Kupa. The three rivers with their backwaters provide fishing opportunities. In the regions of Posavina and Turopolje there are hunting grounds. Sisak is also the starting point for sightseeing tours in the Field of Lonja river (Lonjsko Polje) nature park.
