13 February 2026Coast Guard MedevacsOn the night of February 13-14th, 2026, a male crew member was medevaced from the ship shortly after the departure from homeport Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The ship’s medical team concluded that the man's condition could not be treated safely on board and that urgent hospital care would be necessary ashore, prompting a request for assistance. In response to the medical request, the Spanish SASEMAR (Sociedad de Salvamento y Seguridad Marítima/Maritime Safety and Rescue Society) dispatched a rescue boat (Salvamar Tenerife) to intercept Mein Schiff Relax at sea. On arrival, rescue teams offloaded the man and transported him to the quay at Port Santa Cruz de Tenerife, from where he was ambulanced to a hospital facility. Details about the crew member’s nationality, rank/job assignment, or the nature of the medical condition were not officially disclosed. The incident occurred at the beginning of the 7-day "Kanaren Mit Madeira - AbBis Santa Cruz" (itinerary February 13-20, roundtrip from Santa Cruz de Tenerife) visiting Arrecife (Feb 14), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Feb 15), Santa Cruz de la Palma (Feb 16), and Madeira (Funchal/Feb 18). |
19 January 2024Crew / Passenger Injuries and OverboardsIn the morning of January 19, 2024, (~8:30 am UTC) at Fincantieri Monfalcone shipyard's drydock, a scaffolding attached to the vessel (under construction) collapsed, trapping a 25-year-old worker underneath/amidst the debris. The yard's fire brigade freed the trapped man using a mobile crane. Sustaining thoracic trauma, he was ambulanced to Trieste's Cattinara Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. Several other workers sustained minor injuries. The collapse occurred after the gangway/bridge detached from the ship. Reportedly, the structure was weakened by strong winds in the Trieste Gulf the previous night. The rescue operation involved personnel from Trieste's fire brigade, divers, ASU GI (Azienda Sanitaria Universitaria Giuliano Isontina/University Health Company), emergency medical personnel from SORES (Sala Operativa Regionale Emergenza Sanitaria) and State Police officers, who quickly arrived at the shipyard. In response to the incident, colleagues of the injured man (a subcontractractor's employee) initiated a strike at the shipyard that continued throughout the day. Several workers abstained from work and left the facility, expressing concerns over workplace safety and demanding appropriate measures to prevent future accidents. |
