30 October 2015Other Incidents

On October 30, 2015, a US federal court ordered the vessel to be seized/arrested in Portland ME (USA). The arrest followed complaints filed by suppliers to which Nova Star Cruises owed money. The debt was in excess of USD 3 million, including USD 196,000 unpaid pilotage fees).

Maritime law allows ship seizure and forcing the shipowner to sell the vessel at auction to collect money and payback. The company was presented by attorney Ed MacColl. The shipowner ST Marine (Singapore) reached settlements with most of the companies.

(update) On November 30, US Magistrate Judge released the vessel on bail after ST Marine posted USD 750,000 bond (substantially exceeding the remaining claims).
