21 June 2006Ship Collision / Allision

On June 21, 2006, at ~1 pm, while entering Gulf of Olbia, the arriving from Civitavecchia ship was rammed by the ferry Moby Fantasy (scrapped in 2013) exiting from Olbia towards Civitavecchia. As a result of the collision, Moby ship's bow opened a gash (above the waterline) in the Nuraghes hull starboard. The Moby ship reported serious bow damage.

According to the accident investigation report, the responsibility was attributed to the officers of Nuraghes, who didn't maintain the required speed of 28 kN (52 kph / 32 mph). The accident was also due to lack of visibility in the gulf, no emergency sound signals and lack of adequate radio communications.

17 September 2004Ship Collision / Allision

On September 17, 2004, just 2 months after inauguration, at ~8 pm, the ship (moored in port Olbia) was rammed by the ferry GNV La Superba maneuvering for docking. Nuraghes were berthed at Pier 3 and waiting for its 11 pm departure for Civitavecchia (Rome).

At the time of the crash, the moored ferry had only 1 crew on board. Nuraghes sustained several hull damages (to the bow, Navigation Bridge, and partially the stern). One of its lifeboats fell into the water, while one inflatable liferaft remained hanging in the air. After the investigations and inspections, Nuraghes departed towards Lazio airport.

The fault was attributed to La Superba's Captain, who, despite the bad weather in the harbor, didn't require tugboat assistance.
