MS Steigenberger Omar El Khayam deck plans

MS Omar El Khayam (built in 2008, last refurbished in 2011) is the second of the Viking Cruises ships operating on the Nile River in Egypt, together with MS Mayfair. The ship is also known as “JAZ Omar El Khayam” and “Steigenberger Omar El Khayam.” She is owned by a local Travco Group subsidiary and named after the Persian philosopher, mathematician, and astronomer Omar Khayyam (1048–1131). These two Lake Nasser luxury riverboats are operated by Viking under charter.

Steigenberger Omar El Khayam’s deck plan includes a total of 80 staterooms for 160 passengers, served by 88 English-speaking crew/staff. The ship features 6 passenger decks, a spacious Sun Deck (with swimming pool, whirlpool, and shaded seating), 1 restaurant, 3 lounges with bars, a gym, spa, sauna, and 1 elevator connecting all cabin decks.

As one of Egypt’s largest luxury river cruise ships, Omar El Khayam sails an itinerary named “Pathways of the Pharaohs.” Its full duration is 12 days and includes 12 guided Egypt tours, plus 2 flight transfers from Cairo, all included in Viking’s cruise fares. The cruise-only itinerary between Aswan and Abu Simbel is offered as 3-, 4-, or 7-day voyages.

The ship’s dress code allows swimsuits, shorts, and tank tops only on the Sun Deck. Ashore, women are advised to cover their shoulders with a scarf and avoid skirts above the knee. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for land excursions.
