“Stop Cruises” movement blocks RCI's Wonder OTS and MSC's Orchestra ships at Port Marseille

Tuesday morning, June 14, about 20 activists from the “Stop Cruises” movement tried to block the entrance of the RCI-Royal Caribbean's liner Wonder of the Seas and MSC's Orchestra at Port Marseille (France).

The activists on inflatable canoes blocked the liners from entering the port for ~2 hours.

They positioned themselves at a distance from Wonder OTS in a way that the approaching maneuvers to the port's northern entrance were impossible. The harbor master's office interrupted all traffic at the port entrance.

The maritime police had to intervene, keeping the protesters close to the dike so that the cruise ships can enter the harbor.

MSC Orchestra was scheduled to dock in Marseille after Wonder OTS and remained stationary close to the port. Her arrival was also delayed.

In a post on social media, protesters from the "Stop Cruises" movement, said:

“This morning, alongside Extinction Rebellion activists, we blocked for 2:30h the port of Marseille preventing the entry of the Wonder Of The Seas and the MSC Orchestra. After an hour of lockdown, the gendarmerie arrived to try to displace us, but we were determined to fight against this floating pollution."

The movement is supported by Extinction Rebellion and Alternatiba. It protests against cruise activity and the impact of pollution/global warming.
