5-masted sailship Club Med 2 runs aground off Panama's San Blas Islands

The 5-masted schooner/sailship Club Med 2 (IMO 9007491) ran aground off Panama's San Blas Archipelago between Wednesday, February 15th, and Thursday, February 16th.

The 187-m boat, carrying 316 passengers and 220 crew, remained immobilized for 20+ hours following the grounding.

The ship remained anchored for a hull inspection by a team of divers that was necessary before setting off again in complete safety.

Following the approval of the local authorities, Club Med 2 (in service since 1992, France-flagged) continued the voyage to Cartagena (Colombia) and then headed to Montego Bay (Jamaica).
