On Friday, May 27, Cunard Line’s 2,620-passenger flagship Queen Mary 2 started an extensive 25-day dry-dock and refurbishment at Blohm & Voss Shipyard in Hamburg. The refit will bring her capacity up to 2,705 lower berths, adding 3.25% to her earning power.

The first post-refit sailing of QM2 will depart June 21 from Hamburg via Southampton to New York City.

The ship will receive 30 new Britannia Club balcony staterooms, installed on Deck 13, 5 new inside cabins, again on Deck 13, and 15 new single cabins around the vessel, the first for this ship. 10 new kennels will be added to the existing 12 for her traditional feline and canine guests.

The unappreciated Winter Garden will be replaced with a comfortable venue, to be called Carinthia Lounge, which will provide alternative breakfast and lunchtime dining options plus premium coffees. Todd English will become The Verandah Restaurant.
