Port Seattle starts 2024 Alaskan cruise season with Norwegian Bliss ship

The 2024 Alaskan season commenced on Saturday with the arrival of NCL's cruise ship Norwegian Bliss at Pier 66, marking the beginning of anticipated economic and tourism benefits for Seattle, as stated by Port Seattle (Washington USA).

Business proprietors along the waterfront expressed their anticipation for the cruise season's commencement, noting its significance for their establishments' prosperity.

Projections from the Port of Seattle indicate a potential record-setting economic injection of ~US$900 million, along with the creation of 5500+ jobs throughout the season.

In alignment with its goals, the Port of Seattle is actively pursuing initiatives to achieve its vision of becoming the most environmentally sustainable port in North America, aiming to eliminate seaport-related emissions by 2050.

Waterfront eateries such as "Anthony’s Pier 66" are preparing to accommodate an influx of patrons, courtesy of cruise travelers making stops in the area.

The Port of Seattle anticipates 800,000+ passengers and 275 ship calls during the current cruise season. Early arrivals among passengers express their eagerness to explore Seattle's offerings.

Continuing the trend of growth, the Port of Seattle aims to attract more passengers this year, building upon the previous season's success, which saw a reported 1.7 million passengers, an increase of ~400,000 from 2022.

Industry leaders highlight the pivotal role of the cruise season in Seattle's economic resurgence, estimating a contribution of US$4 million per sailing and US$920 million per season.
