On April 13, 2025, NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line officially christened its newest vessel, the Norwegian Aqua, at PortMiami (Florida USA).
Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet served as the ship's godfather, initiating the traditional bottle-breaking ceremony to bestow good fortune upon the vessel and its future passengers.
During the event, NCL President David J. Herrera outlined forthcoming enhancements to Great Stirrup Cay, the company's private island in the Bahamas.
Scheduled for completion by late 2025, the upgrades include:
- A 28,000-ft2 heated pool featuring swim-up bars, a children's splash zone, and surrounding cabanas.
- A new welcome center to improve guest reception.
- An island-wide tram system for easier navigation.
- The introduction of the Vibe Beach Club, an adults-only area with private cabanas.
- Horizon Park, a recreational space offering lawn games and shaded relaxation areas.
These developments aim to enhance the guest experience and accommodate increasing visitor numbers.
Following her christening, the Norwegian Aqua will commence 7-day Eastern Caribbean voyages from Port Canaveral, Florida, visiting destinations such as Puerto Plata (Dominicana), St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands), Tortola (British Virgin Islands), and Great Stirrup Cay.
Later in 2025, the ship will offer roundtrips from New York City to Bermuda (Royal Naval Dockyard/King's Wharf) before returning to Miami for additional Caribbean itineraries.
The christening ceremony also featured a performance of “Revolution: A Celebration of Prince,” providing entertainment for attendees.
These initiatives reflect NCL's commitment to enhancing its offerings and providing diverse experiences for its guests.
