Global Ports Holding (GPH), in collaboration with its local partner Sepcan and the Port Authority of Las Palmas, has officially inaugurated new cruise terminal facilities in the Canary Islands, enhancing the region's maritime infrastructure.
At Lanzarote Cruise Port (Arrecife, Canary Islands), two terminals have been introduced: the Naos Terminal, encompassing 1,106 square meters, designed for both transit and homeport operations; and the Los Mármoles Terminal, covering 556 square meters, capable of accommodating up to three cruise ships simultaneously. An additional 426-square-meter satellite terminal supports auxiliary services for passengers and crew.
In Fuerteventura (Puerto del Rosario, Canary Islands), a new 924-square-meter cruise terminal has been established near the city center. This facility features a modular design with a dining area and an outdoor terrace, aiming to enhance the passenger experience and integrate seamlessly with the local environment.
Both terminals are constructed with eco-efficient principles, incorporating solar panels and utilizing recycled materials to minimize environmental impact. These developments are part of GPH's broader investment strategy in the Canary Islands, totaling over EUR 40 million, which includes upcoming projects in Gran Canaria scheduled for the next cruise season.
The inauguration ceremonies were attended by key figures, including Beatriz Calzada, President of the Port Authority of Las Palmas; Pedro García, Director of Operations at Puertos del Estado; and Mehmet Kutman, Chairman & CEO of Global Ports Holding. The new terminals are expected to significantly boost cruise tourism in the region, with projections indicating over one million cruise passengers annually, thereby contributing to the local economy and reinforcing the Canary Islands' status as a prominent cruise destination.
