Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, hosted the keel laying ceremony for CCL-Carnival Cruise Line’s newest Excel-class vessel, Carnival Festivale, scheduled for delivery in spring 2027. Following maritime tradition, commemorative coins inscribed with musical notes were placed on August 14th beneath the 598-ton keel block to symbolize good fortune for the ship.
Representatives from Carnival Cruise Line, including Brett Vitols, Associate Vice President of New Builds, and Petu Kummala, Associate Vice President of Interior Design and Architecture, attended alongside Meyer Werft’s project team led by Georg Schauen, Project Manager for Carnival Festivale.
Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line, remarked that Carnival Festivale would not only expand the fleet but also redefine onboard entertainment through distinctive design and immersive guest experiences. She emphasized the ship’s music-inspired theme as a unifying element and expressed appreciation for Meyer Werft’s continued partnership in bringing the vessel to life.
The ceremony followed Carnival’s announcement of new details regarding the music-themed ship, including the opening of bookings for its inaugural season. Upon completion, Carnival Festivale will homeport at Port Canaveral, Florida, as the line’s fourth Excel-class vessel and fourth LNG-powered ship.
Designed to engage guests of all ages, the ship will feature music-centric zones that highlight the creative process of music-making and the excitement of live performances through interactive technology, dynamic lighting, and thematic dining and beverage offerings.
Among its standout amenities is Sunsation Point, a family-oriented space spanning Decks 16 to 18, anchored by Carnival WaterWorks Ultra—the largest water park at sea. With 1,000 interconnecting staterooms, expanded youth facilities, and enhanced programming for younger guests, Carnival Festivale aims to serve as a premier vacation choice for families.
