Massara Shipyard delivered to Viking Cruises the newest Nile River cruise ship, Viking Amun, following a handover ceremony at the shipyard in Cairo. This ship joins Viking's Egypt fleet and operates the 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary.
With capacity to accommodate 82 guests in 41 staterooms, Viking Amun shares the distinctive Scandinavian design seen across the line's river fleet.
The boat replicates key features found aboard its sister ships—Viking Osiris, Aton, Sobek, and Hathor—including the characteristic square bow and the dual-purpose Aquavit Terrace.
Within the next two years, Viking plans to introduce five more ships to its Egyptian operations, bringing the Nile fleet to 12 vessels by 2027.
The handover aligns with the long-term strategy of expanding the company’s global presence: Viking anticipates adding 27 new river ships by 2028, and 10 additional ocean-going vessels by 2031, bringing total counts to 112 and 23 ships, respectively.
This development reaffirms Viking’s investment in its experiential travel proposition and its growing commitment to enhanced river cruise capacities in strategic regions like Egypt.
