The U.S.-based energy firm World Fuel Services (WFS) — part of World Kinect — coordinated a waste-based biofuel bunkering for a vessel of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) in a port in Greece, following collaboration with Greek supplier EKO, according to a company statement. The operation involved delivering a marine-fuel blend to the ship Norwegian Viva at the port of Piraeus. This event stands as one of the earliest commercial biofuel bunkerings for a cruise vessel in Greece.

The delivery marked an extension of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ biofuel program across Southern Europe, as part of its environmental initiative Sail & Sustain, and demonstrated World Fuel Services’ capacity to connect ship operators with certified sustainable fuels globally.

This latest operation builds upon prior biofuel activities undertaken by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings in Europe, including trials in Gibraltar, Copenhagen and the AmsterdamRotterdamAntwerp region, as well as an earlier biofuel delivery in Piraeus.
