DCL-Disney Cruise Line takes delivery of its largest ship, Disney Adventure

DCL-Disney Cruise Line has taken formal delivery of Disney Adventure, the largest vessel in the company’s history. The handover occurred at Meyer Werft's Wismar shipyard in Germany during the customary delivery ceremony, signifying the ship’s passage from construction to operational status. With this addition, the fleet expands to 8 cruise ships.

In contrast to the majority of Disney’s fleet, which typically serves the Caribbean and European waters, Disney Adventure is designated for deployment in Asian waters. Disney indicated that the vessel will be based in Singapore and is slated to commence service with its maiden voyage in March 2026.

The cruise line noted in a social media announcement that Disney Adventure had reached the milestone of being closer to its Singapore assignment and that the first sailing was scheduled for March 2026, with the intention of welcoming guests aboard.

It has been confirmed by Disney that the ship will remain homeported in Singapore for a minimum of five years, operating itineraries of three and four nights. This represents Disney Cruise Line’s inaugural long-term assignment in Southeast Asia.

At an approximate 208,000 gross tons, Disney Adventure surpasses in size all preceding ships in the Disney fleet. For context, the company’s Wish-class vessels are around 144,000 gross tons and designed to carry just under 4,000 passengers. In comparison, Disney Adventure is expected to accommodate roughly 6,000 guests, making it about 45% larger than the next-largest ship in the fleet.

The vessel’s construction history is notable: originally commenced for another cruise operator under the name Global Dream, construction had advanced significantly before the original owner ceased operations and entered bankruptcy. Disney Cruise Line subsequently acquired the incomplete hull and adapted it to conform to its own specifications, resulting in the ship now known as Disney Adventure.

With delivery concluded, Disney will proceed into the final outfitting phase, which encompasses finishing the interior theming, conducting comprehensive system tests, and training the requisite thousands of crew members in preparation for the ship’s debut.
