Water line failure disrupts cabins aboard MSC Seaview during South America sailing

MSC Cruises has confirmed that a technical fault in a water line led to localized flooding aboard MSC Seaview during a South American itinerary earlier this month.

Video footage circulated online by Brazilian media outlet UOL showed standing water along a passenger corridor, with soaked carpeting visible outside staterooms. In one recording, guests were seen walking barefoot through the affected area. The incident occurred on January 12th while the vessel was operating a 7-night cruise that departed Santos, near São Paulo, on January 10th.

According to the cruise line, the issue originated from a malfunction in a water line, which resulted in water entering a number of guest cabins as well as a public corridor. The company indicated that the fault was identified promptly, isolated, and repaired by the ship’s technical team. MSC reported that all impacted cabins were subsequently deep-cleaned.

While the cruise line did not disclose how many staterooms were affected, it stated that the incident did not present a safety risk to passengers. MSC further advised that guests were kept informed throughout the situation and provided with assistance as needed. Compensation measures were offered based on the level of disruption experienced, including cabin upgrades, full refunds in certain cases, and onboard credit of up to US$150.

MSC Seaview continued its voyage following the resolution of the issue.
