The cruise ship Norwegian Prima temporarily broke away from the pier at Port Canaveral, Florida, on January 18th, 2026, after several mooring lines parted under the influence of strong winds.

Video footage circulated from the port area shows the vessel moving off the berth while shore-side personnel and port authorities responded. Tugboats were promptly dispatched and assisted in stabilizing the ship’s position, subsequently guiding her back alongside in a controlled manner. Reports from individuals present at the terminal indicated that wind conditions were severe at the time, leading to a disruption of embarkation activities. Luggage handling was suspended while the situation was assessed and brought under control. Shipboard communications reportedly included the activation of Code Echo, a standard alert used when a vessel experiences unintended movement or requires immediate navigational attention.

Norwegian Prima was alongside at Port Canaveral during preparations for a 7-night round-trip Caribbean voyage from the central Florida homeport. The itinerary includes a scheduled call at Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line’s private destination in the Bahamas.
