A passenger overboard incident was reported aboard the Windstar Cruises vessel Star Breeze while the ship was sailing off the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia during a 14-day Tahiti itinerary. The vessel sounded Code Oscar after it was determined that a passenger was missing.
According to local media reports, the individual involved is believed to be a 66-year-old United States citizen. The reports indicate that the passenger went overboard at approximately 2:00 a.m., with preliminary accounts suggesting the incident followed a domestic dispute, although the precise circumstances remain under investigation and have not been formally confirmed by authorities.
Following the alert, maritime authorities were notified and a search operation was initiated. The French Navy patrol vessel Gardian was dispatched to the area and arrived at the scene at around 8:00 a.m. to assist in the search efforts. After the initial response, Star Breeze proceeded to Hiva Oa, arriving later the same day.
Upon the ship’s arrival, police investigators boarded the vessel and began conducting interviews as part of an ongoing inquiry into the events surrounding the reported overboard incident.
