AIDA Cruises marked its 30th anniversary this week during a gathering in Berlin attended by representatives from government, the maritime sector, and the cruise industry, where discussions centered on the future development of cruising and the sector’s ongoing transition toward lower-emission operations.
The company noted that approximately 17 million guests have travelled aboard AIDA vessels since the brand entered service in 1996. The fleet currently consists of 11 ships, with two additional newbuildings scheduled for delivery in 2030 and 2031.
During the anniversary event, AIDA Cruises President Felix Eichhorn outlined the company’s continuing emphasis on environmental measures, operational modernization, and the adoption of new technologies intended to support more sustainable cruise operations.
According to the company, more than 600 shore power connections are planned for 2026, representing a substantial increase compared with figures recorded three years earlier. The expansion forms part of broader efforts aimed at reducing emissions while vessels are berthed in port.
AIDA Cruises also confirmed that approximately EUR 700 million is being invested in a fleet modernization programme covering seven ships. The refit work is focused on improving energy efficiency alongside upgrades to guest facilities and onboard systems.
The company further stated that its vessels are being prepared for the future use of biofuels and synthetic e-fuels, while AIDAprima currently operates with one of the cruise industry’s larger battery installations.
Over the past three decades, AIDA vessels have called at 478 ports across 120 countries, establishing the brand as one of the leading operators in the German cruise market.
