Windstar Cruises establishes UK operating base to expand trade distribution

Windstar Cruises has set out plans to establish a formal operating presence in the United Kingdom, a development positioned to significantly broaden its commercial reach across the UK and Ireland travel trade.

As part of the initiative, the company has incorporated Windstar Cruises UK Ltd and is progressing through the process of securing ABTOT bonding, enabling cruise-only bookings with full consumer protection for UK-based clients. The line also intends to obtain ATOL bonding in a subsequent phase, which would for the first time allow the sale of flight-inclusive cruise packages within the UK market.

The expansion is intended to increase direct contracting opportunities for UK and Irish agents, supported by access to Windstar’s online booking platform for cruise-only reservations. The company will maintain its existing distribution partnerships with systems providers including Traveltek and Odysseus, ensuring continued integration for trade partners across established channels.

The timing of the UK market development aligns with a broader fleet expansion programme that will see Windstar operating eight yachts worldwide. The arrival of Star Seeker in December 2025 is followed by the introduction of Star Explorer in December 2026, both of which add capacity and broaden itinerary options for the UK and Irish markets. The fleet expansion also supports the redeployment of Wind Star to Tahiti alongside Star Breeze from 2027, restoring the company’s sailing presence in the region.

Company leadership indicated that the expansion reflects a long-term commitment to the UK trade, with emphasis placed on increasing direct engagement with agents while maintaining existing platform partnerships. It was noted that the line’s approach is intended to combine expanded access with continuity for established distribution arrangements, allowing UK partners to book cruise-only product under full financial protection structures.

The UK development is being overseen by Windstar’s global commercial leadership, with operational roles planned to support sales enablement and coordination across international markets. A new manager for sales operations is also being sought within the UK to support this structure and reinforce the line’s commercial footprint.

The programme coincides with increased deployment activity in Europe, including the introduction of ex-London short cruises aboard Star Pride and the planned christening of Star Explorer in London in 2027, reinforcing the capital’s role within the line’s European positioning strategy.

Across its wider European network, Windstar continues to operate itineraries across the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, with extended coverage across Italy, Greece, Spain, and Northern European coastal ports, alongside a growing focus on immersive, small-ship voyages designed to integrate port access with inland cultural and coastal exploration.
