The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has cancelled its seasonal ferry service between Douglas and Dublin for the period from July 23rd to October 1st, 2026, citing continuing infrastructure disruption affecting operations across the Irish Sea network. Sailings will continue as scheduled until July 19th.
The suspension follows operational difficulties linked to Holyhead Port in North Wales, where infrastructure disruption has reduced berth availability and sailing slots throughout the region, including at Dublin Port. The company stated that extensive efforts had been made in recent months to identify contingency arrangements capable of sustaining the route while preserving reliability across the wider network.
The decision is expected to affect summer travel demand between Ireland and the Isle of Man, including visitors attending the island’s motorcycle racing events. The Douglas–Dublin route had only been introduced in November 2025.
Managing Director Brian Thomson indicated that the company regarded the move as a difficult operational decision rather than a withdrawal from the Irish market. He stated that the operator had worked closely with Dublin Port in an effort to resolve berth-access constraints but had been unable to secure a solution considered operationally sustainable without affecting broader network reliability.
The company added that attention would now remain focused on maintaining dependable services across its core routes while preserving Irish connectivity through the existing Larne service. From July, the Larne route is scheduled to increase to three sailings per week throughout the year, expanding both passenger and freight capacity.
The operator further indicated that discussions with port authorities and stakeholders would continue in pursuit of improved operating conditions and more suitable berth access for future Dublin operations. It confirmed that sailings via Dublin for spring 2027, including TT-related services, remain available for booking.
Passengers booked on affected sailings are being contacted directly and are being offered either transfers to alternative Isle of Man Steam Packet Company services at no additional cost or full refunds.
