BLUE STAR FERRIES' ship Blue Star 2 was diverted from its scheduled Aegean Sea route on June 12th, after authorities received a bomb threat while the Ro-Pax vessel was en route from Piraeus to several island destinations in the southeastern Aegean.

The ferry had departed Piraeus bound for Syros, Patmos, Leros, Kalymnos, Kos and Rhodes when the threat was reported.

As a precautionary measure, authorities instructed the Captain to alter course and proceed to Lavrio, where security procedures were to be carried out.

At the time of the diversion, Blue Star 2 was carrying 952 passengers and 98 crew members.

Upon arrival in Lavrio, explosives specialists and sniffer-dog units were expected to conduct a thorough inspection of the vessel to assess the credibility of the threat and ensure the safety of all on board.

No additional information regarding the source of the threat or the outcome of the inspection was immediately available.
