Azamara Cruises has introduced a new global brand campaign under the theme “The Next Big Thing is Small,” placing renewed emphasis on the advantages of small-ship travel and destination-focused cruising.

The campaign will be deployed across television, digital, social media, print and trade channels. Its message is built around the premise that meaningful travel experiences are often found in personal encounters, lesser-known destinations and extended time ashore rather than in large-scale attractions or tightly scheduled itineraries.

According to Azamara Cruises, the initiative reflects the growing demand for travel experiences that offer greater authenticity, personal engagement and a stronger connection with local cultures. Chief Executive Officer Dondra Ritzenthaler noted that the company has long maintained that smaller vessels create more opportunities for deeper destination immersion, a concept that continues to resonate with contemporary travellers seeking more meaningful journeys.

The campaign is also informed by recent brand research conducted in partnership with Brand Alloy. The study indicated that a majority of respondents associated Azamara with destination immersion and cultural engagement. Access to less-frequented ports, longer stays in port and the intimate atmosphere of small-ship cruising were identified as key characteristics distinguishing the brand. Guests also highlighted benefits such as uncrowded public spaces, convenient docking locations close to city centres and personalised service from crew members.

Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Kauffman explained that the campaign is intended to encourage travellers to reconsider how they experience the world, with an emphasis on journeys that are more personal, less hurried and more closely connected to the destinations visited. Through a combination of visual storytelling and destination-focused content, the campaign showcases experiences that are particularly suited to smaller vessels, including sailing directly into the centres of historic cities and participating in culturally significant events ashore through the company's AzAmazing Evenings programme.
