Hurtigruten is expanding its Arctic program with a new 6-day itinerary, Northern Delights: Svalbard and Arctic Norway, for the 2026-2027 winter season. The program combines a land-based stay in Svalbard with a 3-day coastal voyage above the Arctic Circle in northern Norway.
The itinerary begins with 2 days in Svalbard before guests fly from Longyearbyen to Tromsø for embarkation on a 3-day sailing to Kirkenes. The winter route runs through areas with limited artificial light, providing favorable conditions for Northern Lights viewing.
The land program starts in Longyearbyen, the world’s northernmost settlement commonly described as a city, located ~1,300 kilometres from the North Pole. Accommodation is provided at the Radisson Blu Polar Hotel Spitsbergen, with activities focused on the winter environment and local Arctic traditions.
Among the scheduled experiences is an evening at Camp Barentz, where guests can have a wilderness dinner featuring reindeer stew. A husky safari is also included, with participants able to operate their own dog sled under the guidance of the local team.
On the 3rd day, passengers fly from Spitsbergen to Tromsø, known as a major gateway to the Arctic. The program allows time for independent exploration before embarkation on the evening of the 4th day.
The maritime portion follows the Norwegian coast from Tromsø towards Kirkenes, with calls at Skjervøy and Hammerfest before reaching Honningsvåg and the North Cape. An optional shore excursion provides access to the North Cape plateau and its globe monument, situated at one of Europe’s northernmost points.
The voyage continues past Finnkirka, a historic Sámi ceremonial site, and the northernmost mainland lighthouse before following the Varanger Peninsula towards Kirkenes. The journey concludes on day six at the eastern terminus of Hurtigruten’s Original Coastal Express route. Guests can extend their stay in the area, including with a visit to the Kirkenes Snowhotel.
Hurtigruten Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the UK and Emerging Markets Hayley Moore said the itinerary was developed around growing demand for winter travel experiences that combine nature, adventure and local culture. She said the combination of Svalbard’s polar environment and the Norwegian winter coast was intended to provide a distinct Arctic itinerary within a single trip.
Northern Delights: Svalbard and Arctic Norway is currently available for the 2026-2027 season, with fares starting at GBP1,655 per person. The price includes the flight from Longyearbyen to Tromsø, transfers, hotel accommodation, the coastal voyage and selected activities.
Scheduled departures include December 6, 2026; January 5, 24 and 31, 2027; February 2, 16 and 21; and March 2, 9, 16 and 23, 2027.
