MS Veendam has made an unexpected detour Saturday night after a 71-year-old cruise passenger badly fractured her wrist in a fall, according to the Maritime Operations Centre.

An incident report stated that Veendam, en route from Fort Lauderdale, bound for Horta, was due off Bermuda's east end early Sunday evening.

At 10:16 pm on Sunday, October 22, the patient was taken ashore by pilot boat St David for transfer by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

MS Veendam is among the occasional visitors to the island, and was due to berth in Bermuda 6 times in 2017.
