The number of international cruise passengers visiting Helsinki rose to an all-time record in 2017 totalling 478,000 foreign travelers. Last year, the number was 409,000. The previous record, in 2015, was 436,500.
The largest groups in 2017 came from North America (26%), Germany (25%), the UK (nearly 10%), Canada (6%), and Spain (5%).
A new cruise quay in Hernesaari will be finished until the end of 2018, intended to be used in 2019 season.
There were 266 cruise ship calls, which is not a new record, but it shows that the sizes and passenger capacities of vessels are increasing.
