NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Sun has canceled its scheduled call in Sydney, Nova Scotia, after adverse weather conditions slowed the vessel’s progress during its transatlantic crossing.
In a letter sent to passengers on October 19th, Captain Teo Radun confirmed that the ship would skip its planned October 21st visit to Sydney and proceed directly to Halifax. The change replaces the scheduled port call with an additional day at sea.
The vessel is now expected to arrive in Halifax at 8:30 a.m. on October 22nd, earlier than the originally scheduled arrival time of 10:00 a.m. Departure remains set for 7:00 p.m., providing passengers with an additional 90 minutes ashore.
Radun acknowledged that the itinerary change would affect passengers who had planned to visit Sydney and apologised for the disruption. He also confirmed that there were no safety concerns for passengers or crew, adding that the ship’s team would continue to monitor weather conditions during the voyage to Halifax.
All shore excursions in Sydney booked through Norwegian Cruise Line have been automatically canceled. Full refunds will be credited to passengers’ onboard accounts, with no further action required. Passengers wishing to arrange excursions in Halifax have been directed to the Shore Excursions Desk on Deck 5.
Norwegian Sun departed Southampton on October 12th, with scheduled calls in Le Havre, Cobh and Belfast before crossing the Atlantic. Following the revised Halifax call and an additional day at sea, the vessel remains scheduled to arrive in New York City at 7:00 a.m. on October 24th.
