The much-maligned Sydney Harbour ferry, Ferry McFerryface, has crashed into Balmain East wharf.

The boat has suffered minor damage during the collision on Wednesday morning, February 28.

No one has been injured in the crash. The ferry, controversially called Ferry McFerryface in the end of 2017 when Transport Minister Andrew Constance made ill-fated "captain's call", was taken to a shipyard for repairs.

According to Harbour City Ferries, it is not yet known when the ship will be back in service.

The boat will soon be renamed "May Gibbs" following an outcry from ferry workers and the community over the choice of name by the transport minister.

Initially, Mr Constance announced that Ferry McFerryface had been chosen by public vote. However, documents released under freedom of information laws then showed that was not the case.
