Cruise industry sources say that Viking’s entry into Townsville's cruise market is significant.

According to Australian Cruise Association chief executive, Jill Abel, regional ports like Townsville are becoming more important to cruise industry.

With its debut in 2018, the 227-metre Viking Orion became the latest vessel in the rapidly growing fleet of Viking Ocean Cruises which includes nearly identical ships.

With 930-passenger capacity, Orion is described as small ship that is big on amenities designed for guests looking for relaxation alongside exploration.
