With a high volume of cruisers expected at Canada Place cruise terminal at the Port of Vancouver this month, locals and travellers should plan ahead to prepare for increased traffic and crowds in surrounding areas.
On Saturday, September 21, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, Golden Princess and Ruby Princess were docked at Canada Place, bringing a total of 16,000 passengers into the downtown area. 3 more cruise ships - ms Westerdam, ms Noordam, and Celebrity Eclipse, sailed on Sunday, September 22, with 14,000 passengers either starting or ending their Alaskan voyages in Vancouver BC.
Over 1 million cruise tourists on 290 ship calls are expected in Vancouver BC during Alaskan season 2019 - or a 21% increase over 2018.
