Hilton Head Island, also referred to as Hilton Head, is Lowcountry resort town situated on an island of the same name, Beaufort County (South Carolina, U.S.). Hilton Head Island is 32 km (20 ml) northeast of Savannah, Georgia, and 153 km (95 ml) southwest of Charleston. It is named after Capt. William Hilton, who identified a headland in 1663, close to the entrance to Port Royal Sound. He named it after himself, "Hilton's Head".

Hilton Head Island features 19 km (12 ml) of beachfront on the Atlantic and is a popular vacation destination. The total area of Hilton Head Island is 179.1 km2 (69.2 ml2). The year-round population was 37,100 at 2010 census, although during the peak summer season the population swells to 150,000. Over the past decade, the population growth rate on the island was 32%. Hilton Head is a primary city within Hilton Head Island-Bluffton-Beaufort metropolitan area.

Hilton Head Island has a rich history which started thousands of years ago with seasonal occupation by Native Americans, and continued with European exploration and Sea Island Cotton trade. During the Civil War, Hilton Head became a major base of operations for Union blockade of Southern ports. Once it fell to Union troops, a wealth of ex-slaves flocked to the island, which is still home to a lot of "native islanders", of whom many are descendants of freed slaves (Gullah or Geechee) who managed to hold on much of their cultural and ethnic identity.

Hilton Head offers a large number of cultural opportunities for a community of its size, including the largest annual tented wine tasting event on the east coast, Broadway-quality plays at Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, 120-member full chorus of Hilton Head Choral Society, highly rated Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, as well as several other annual festivals. Hilton Head Island also hosts Heritage Golf Classic, PGA Tour tournament played on Harbour Town Golf Links, Sea Pines Resort.
