02 October 2018Fire Accident

On October 2, 2018, the ship suffered an engine breakdown resulting in complete power loss (blackout and drifting in Baltic Sea) between 2:30-3:30 pm. At ~1:40 pm, the ferry sent a distress call following an engine room explosion. The fire produced dense smoke and triggered the room's fire suppression system. No injuries were reported among the 294 passengers and 41 crew.

The DFDS-owned ferry was en-route from Kiel (Germany) to Klaipeda (Lithuania), and in international waters - near Kaliningrad (Russia) and southeast of Bornholm (Denmark) - between Poland and Lithuania.

At the time of the accident, all passengers were assembled at the muster stations and ready for evacuation. However, the procedure was canceled as the situation was soon under control. A Lithuanian military helicopter was sent to the scene. The ship continued at reduced speed (26 kph / 16 mph) towards Klaipeda. Escorted by 2 tugboats, it reached the port on October 3, docking at ~7 pm.
