A separate link provides an extensive information on American West staterooms (cabins and suites), including photos, cabin plans and amenities by room type and category.

MS American West (built in 1995 as "Queen of the West" and extensively refurbished in 2011 and 2021-2022, when she was renamed) is an authentic late-1800s-style US river paddle-wheeler steamboat operated by American Cruise Lines. Her design closely resembles that of her fleetmates American Heritage (formerly Queen of the Mississippi, 2015), American Splendor (formerly America, 2016), American Pride (2012, sister ship), and American Eagle (2015), as well as the American Queen Voyages steamboats American Empress and American Queen.

The vessel was originally built for the American West Steamboat Company and was later owned by the now-defunct Majestic America Line. She was acquired by American Cruise Lines in 2010. The ship reflects a traditional paddle-wheeler design, iconic to this region of the United States. Often called "paddle steamers," these vessels were originally powered by steam engines that drove paddle wheels. On Queen of the West, the paddle wheel is located at the stern, although some historical designs featured two side-mounted wheels. The paddle wheel propels the ship through the water. Today, American West is powered by two diesel engines, with propulsion delivered through an innovative hydraulic system that uses biodegradable oil.

The Queen of the West/American West river cruise ship deck plan includes a total of 74 staterooms for up to 120 passengers, served by a crew of 47. The vessel has four passenger decks (all accessible via a single elevator), four lounges and bars, and one restaurant.

The multi-million-dollar refurbishment in 2011 added private balconies and introduced a new Library Lounge. During the renovation, several staterooms were converted into single cabins. Notable features include custom-designed furniture in both cabins and public areas, as well as expanded accommodations—many with private balconies. Service on board is attentive and highly personalized, provided by a young and friendly staff. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, creating a relaxed river cruising experience.
