Viking Helgi (built in 1984 as “Surkov,” extensively refurbished in 2008 and last renovated in 2014) is one of four Viking River Cruises Russia ships, together with Viking Akun, Viking Ingvar, and Viking Truvor (of the same vessel class), as well as Viking Rurik and Viking Sineus. This Volga River cruise ship is named after Helgi, a Russian prophet-prince from the 10th century, who was the brother-in-law and successor of Rurik—the legendary Viking chieftain who founded the Rus state.
The Viking Helgi cruise ship deck plan includes a total of 104 staterooms for 210 passengers (served by 115 crew/staff, all English-speaking), across 4 passenger decks, and features 1 glass elevator connecting all decks. The vessel has no fitness/gym room, swimming pool/whirlpool, or spa. Guests may access health and spa facilities at luxury hotels along the ship’s Volga River itinerary. Viking Helgi operates cruises between Moscow and St. Petersburg (and vice versa) from May through October.
