Assault reported on Norwegian Breakaway cruise ship docked in Boston MA

Massachusetts State Police boarded the NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line ship Norwegian Breakaway on Tuesday night, September 13, after a reported assault occurred onboard.

Norwegian Breakaway's departure from Boston MA was delayed for 5+ hours due to the investigation.

According to a spokesperson from MSP/Massachusetts State Police, the officers had boarded the vessel to conduct the investigation at 9:55 pm.

The Captain made an announcement informing travelers and crew members that the ship had not received clearance from the authorities to leave the cruise port.

Norwegian Breakaway was due to leave Flynn Harbor at 7 pm but had to set sail at 12:10 am.

No further details have been released.

At the time of the accident, Norwegian Breakaway was sailing on a 7-night Canada & New England roundtrip cruise from New York with ports of call including Newport RI, Rhode Island (Sept 12), Boston, Massachusetts (Sept 13), Bar Harbor, Maine (Sept 14), Saint John NB, New Brunswick Canada (Sept 15), and Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada (Sept 16).
