During a scheduled stop in Portland Maine, the 2001-built Ocean Navigator ship, operated by AQV-American Queen Voyages, faced an unexpected incident as a fire broke out on board. The fire originated in the engine room, specifically around a generator, prompting the U.S. Coast Guard to initiate an investigation into its cause.

Fortunately, most of the 128 passengers on board were ashore exploring the local attractions when the fire erupted, which helped avert a more significant crisis. The vessel was also staffed with 82 crew members, one of whom sustained burn injuries during the incident. The injured man received immediate on-site medical attention and was subsequently ambulanced to a nearby hospital. Reportedly, his injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

The Portland Fire Department responded swiftly to the reports of an explosion in the engine room, ensuring the injured man's prompt evacuation to the hospital. Additionally, they worked to stabilize the engine room situation and to prevent any further complications by extensive ventilation and overhaul efforts.

Ocean Navigator's voyage commenced in Montreal Canada on October 10th, with Portland being one of its last call ports before the arrival in Boston.

A spokesperson for AQV provided a statement confirming the generator fire. The company assured that no passengers were harmed in the incident and commended the crew for their efficient evacuation efforts. They also confirmed that the fire has been contained and that they are working in collaboration with the local fire department to assess the extent of the damage. Meanwhile, the ship's guests have been accommodated in a local hotel while the situation is being resolved.
