Avalon Waterways has announced a new offering for late 2025, launching its “Cosy Cruise Collection” designed for travellers seeking a quieter, more atmospheric way to experience Europe’s riverways. This collection includes autumn-through-winter departures that coincide with vineyard harvests, less crowded cities, and the continent’s famed Christmas markets.
According to Chris Hall, Managing Director Asia Pacific for the Globus family of brands, the current demand for travel outside of the traditional peak periods has contributed to the popularity of what Avalon refers to as “cosy cruising.” Hall observed that passengers increasingly prefer experiences that provide warmth, comfort, and cultural immersion while avoiding peak season crowds. He emphasised that Avalon’s harvest, off-season, and festive itineraries meet this demand, offering opportunities for meaningful engagement with Europe’s seasonal offerings.
The Cosy Cruise Collection is structured around three core periods: harvest season, off-season, and the pre-Christmas market period. Harvest-themed voyages, operating from mid-October to mid-November, include wine-focused itineraries such as “Romantic Rhine for Wine Lovers,” “Danube Dreams for Wine Lovers,” and “The Rhine & Moselle for Wine Lovers.” These sailings feature vineyard excursions and curated tastings, set against the backdrop of Europe’s golden autumn landscapes.
November’s off-season cruises offer reduced fares — as much as 35% lower than peak summer pricing — along with the benefits of smaller crowds and cooler temperatures. Itineraries during this period include “Romantic Rhine,” “Danube Dreams,” “Bonjour Bordeaux,” and “Paris to Normandy.”
Avalon’s Christmas-themed cruises, meanwhile, focus on European festive traditions and Christmas markets. Select availability remains for 2025 on these popular itineraries, including “Christmastime on the Romantic Rhine” and “Christmastime on the Danube.” These cruises blend scenic sailing with seasonal experiences such as mulled wine tastings and visits to decorated historic town centres.
Although many departures are already heavily booked, Avalon Waterways reports that space remains on a number of sailings, especially in the off-season category. The line encourages early booking for travellers looking to conclude their year with an immersive and tranquil cruise experience along Europe’s iconic rivers.
