AmaWaterways has opened bookings for its full 2028 programme, which includes 4 new river cruise ships, additional itineraries and expanded pre- and post-cruise land extensions across Europe and Africa.

The new vessels will include AmaMaria, scheduled to sail the Rhine, and AmaGaia, which will operate on Portugal’s Douro River. Two further ships will expand the company’s Douro fleet, while another vessel is planned for Africa’s Chobe River, joining the existing Zambezi Queen.

AmaMaria will accommodate 152 passengers in 76 staterooms and incorporate the next-generation design developed for its sister ship AmaFiora, due to enter service in April 2027. The two additional Douro vessels will join AmaDouro and AmaSintra, increasing capacity in Portugal. AmaWaterways also plans to extend its Douro operating season into November and December.

The 2028 programme will include further opportunities to combine river cruises with land-based travel experiences. The company is also expanding its range of itineraries and destination-focused activities, building on its existing operations across several continents.

The four new ships form part of AmaWaterways’ broader fleet development strategy, aimed at increasing capacity on established European routes while expanding its presence in Africa.
