AmaSintra Review
Review of AmaSintra
The 2025-built MS AmaSintra cruises on Portugal’s Douro River, departing from Oporto. While the itineraries embark in Porto, bookings may offer pre-cruise departures from Lisbon (Portugal) or Madrid (Spain). The cruise route explores the Douro River Valley, Portugal’s renowned wine region also known as Alto Douro.
Like most luxury riverboats in Portugal, AmaSintra is operated through a partnership between AmaWaterways (a US company), Mystic Cruises (shipowner), and DouroAzul (co-operator).
MS AmaSintra is a specially modified Concerto-class vessel, purpose-built for navigating the Douro River. Her innovative design delivers elegant styling, spacious accommodations, and expansive public areas—offering features rarely found on traditional riverboats.
The ship is registered in Lisbon under the Portuguese flag (flag state), with MMSI number 263442588. She was constructed by WestSEA shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.
AmaSintra’s sisterships include AmaVida (2013) and AmaDouro (2019).
AmaSintra was officially christened on April 17, 2025, in Oporto. The ceremony was led by godmother Jenn Lee (President of Vacation Planners) and attended by AmaWaterways’ CEO, Rudi Schreiner.
Cabins
AmaSintra offers a total of 51 passenger staterooms, including 2 Suites, 36 Balcony cabins, and 15 staterooms with non-opening windows.

Suites also feature a sitting area with a full-size sofa, table with two chairs, a mini-bar, and a large bathroom with a full-size bathtub.
Each cabin is equipped with a 42-inch HDTV (with local/satellite reception and movies-on-demand) and an Infotainment system offering complimentary in-room Internet and real-time bridge cam views.

Other Douro Azul Portugal cruise ships
AmaSintra Wiki
AmaSintra is the newest and third AmaWaterways vessel (alongside sisterships AmaVida and AmaDouro) operating luxury river cruises in Portugal.
The vessel is operated by AmaWaterways through its "AmaVoyages" division, in partnership with Douro Azul—a Portuguese cruise tour company founded in 1993.
AmaSintra features a newly modified riverboat design, specially adapted to the unique characteristics of the Douro River—one of the largest rivers on the Iberian Peninsula. The river originates near Duruelo de la Sierra (Spain) and flows west to Oporto (Portugal). Renowned for its port wine production, the entire Douro Valley is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The region's iconic scenery includes steeply terraced vineyards in the Upper Douro Valley.
Combining modern aesthetics with advanced marine engineering by CMT Engineering Ltd, AmaSintra also offers unique features such as onboard mini-helicopter tours. Among the vessel’s environmentally friendly innovations are solar panels (covering a 155 m² / 1670 ft² area on the awning roof) and a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system. A highlight of AmaWaterways' Portugal cruises is the inclusion of complimentary bike tours. Guests have access to onboard bicycles for use during excursions and tours in each port of call.
