AmaWaterways has expanded its fleet on Portugal’s Douro River with the introduction of AmaSintra, a new 102-guest vessel that commenced operations this week. The boat joins the fleetmates AmaDouro and AmaVida on the increasingly popular Iberian waterway, offering additional capacity for the line’s Portugal sailings.

AmaSintra features 51 staterooms, a sun deck pool, a fitness room, and a main dining venue serving regional cuisine. The vessel is assigned to AmaWaterways’ "Enticing Douro" itinerary—a 7-night voyage with scheduled calls at Porto, Regua, and Salamanca. Guests may also opt for a 3-night pre-cruise land programme in Lisbon.

Kristin Karst, co-founder and chief brand ambassador of AmaWaterways, noted that interest in Portugal as a river cruise destination continues to rise. She indicated that AmaSintra is expected to deliver a high standard of service and guest experience throughout the season, with scheduled sailings extending into late December.

The vessel was officially named during a christening ceremony in Porto on April 17. Jenn Lee, President of Vacation Planners, was named as AmaSintra’s godmother. According to the line, Lee was selected for her leadership within the travel industry and for her alignment with AmaWaterways’ core principles. Karst remarked that Lee’s professional values reflect the spirit the company hopes AmaSintra will embody as it begins service.

The launch of AmaSintra follows closely on the heels of another major milestone for the company—the debut of its first vessel on Colombia’s Magdalena River—marking a notable period of fleet expansion and geographic diversification for AmaWaterways.
