AmaDouro Review
Review of AmaDouro
The 2019-built MS AmaDouro cruises on Portugal's Douro River, departing from Oporto. While the cruise tours embark in Porto, booking options are available with departures from either Lisbon or Madrid. The itinerary follows the scenic Douro River Valley, Portugal's premier wine-producing region known as Alto Douro.
Like most top-luxury riverboats in Portugal, AmaDouro is operated through a partnership between AmaWaterways (a US company), the Portuguese cruisetour company Mystic Cruises (the shipowner), and DouroAzul (the co-operator).
MS AmaDouro is a customized version of the Concerto-class design, built specifically for Douro River cruising. Her design prioritizes elegance, spacious accommodations, and extensive public areas, incorporating several features uncommon on riverboats.
The vessel is Portugal-flagged (MMSI number 263752970) and registered in Lisbon. She was built by WestSEA shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.
AmaDouro's sisterships are AmaVida (2013) and AmaSintra (2025).
Cabins
AmaDouro has a total of 51 passenger staterooms, including 2 Suites, 36 Balcony cabins, and 15 with non-opening windows.
Most cabins are 20 m² (215 ft²) and feature private step-out balconies with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors. Suites are more spacious at 30 m² (325 ft²). There are six cabin categories, with each accommodating up to two guests.
All staterooms include a private bathroom with a glass-door shower, multi-jet shower head, hairdryer, and premium bath amenities. Additional in-room features include a mirrored vanity table with chair, wardrobe, wireless phone, electronic safe (in the closet), two long-range portable Wi-Fi audio devices (for excursions), daily replenished bottled water, and thermostat-controlled air conditioning. Suites also offer a sitting area with a full-size sofa, a table with two chairs, a mini-bar, and a large bathroom with a full-size bathtub.
Each cabin is equipped with a 42-inch HDTV (local and satellite reception, movies-on-demand) and an infotainment system with complimentary in-room Internet and real-time bridge cam views.

AmaDouro Wiki
AmaDouro is the second of three AmaWaterways ships (alongside sisterships AmaVida and AmaSintra) offering luxury river cruises in Portugal.
The vessel is operated by AmaWaterways' "AmaVoyages" division in partnership with DouroAzul, a Portuguese cruisetour company founded in 1993.
AmaDouro features a newly modified riverboat design tailored specifically to the Douro River—one of the Iberian Peninsula’s major waterways. Originating near Duruelo de la Sierra in Spain and flowing westward to Oporto in Portugal, the Douro is renowned for its port wine production. The entire Douro Valley region is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its scenic landscape defined by vineyard estates climbing the steep, terraced hillsides of the Upper Douro Valley.
Designed by CMT Engineering Ltd, AmaDouro combines a sleek modern appearance with unique features, including onboard mini-helicopter tours. As part of its eco-conscious engineering, the ship is equipped with solar panels (photovoltaic awning roof panels covering a total area of 155 m² / 1670 ft²) and a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system. A highlight of AmaWaterways’ cruise experience in Portugal is the complimentary bike tours, with onboard bicycles available for use during all guided excursions in the itinerary ports.
The ship’s christening ceremony took place on April 12, 2019, in Porto City, Portugal. The ceremony was led by godmother Julia Lo Bue-Said, CEO of Advantage Travel Partnership (the UK’s largest group of independent travel agents). The vessel is captained by Pedro Sardo.
