Yuri Vladimirov (the General Director of Sochi Commercial Seaport Russia) has revealed that the port's management intends to procure a RoPax vessel/cargo and passenger ferry to advance tourism and establish a route to Trabzon Turkey.

The quest for a suitable vessel has commenced.

In 2023, discussions surfaced regarding a potential ferry link between Sochi and Turkey. Erkut Chelebi, Head of the Chamber of Commerce in Trabzon province, disclosed plans to resume ferry operations after a hiatus of 9 years. An agreement was anticipated to be inked on April 6th, with the ferry slated for a May launch.

The vessel's capacity was for ~300 passengers (max) and 200 vehicles.

Port, in turn, has readied its infrastructure to receive the ship, as Vladimirov disclosed to the agency. However, the launch of the vessel between the two states encountered obstacles. Presently, the Port's management is actively seeking appropriate marine transport for this purpose.

The spokesperson clarified that the Sochi-Trabzon maritime link would not only bolster the Port's economic prospects but also catalyze tourism development and cater to passengers seeking cost-effective sea travel. Vladimirov stated they were in search of such a ferry to boost tourism. If they acquire one, it will sail to Trabzon. Departing at 8:00 p.m., it will arrive in Trabzon by 8:00 a.m. If they secure a vessel within, for instance, 6 months, they will commence operations within two weeks.

Moreover, Vladimirov emphasized the necessity for the ferry to offer comfortable amenities including cabins and bars. The fare for ferry tickets is expected to be affordable.

Assessing the transportation scenario, the Port's General Director underscored the company's willingness to collaborate with both Russian and foreign operators.

Additionally, proposals for a ferry meeting the specified requirements for establishing a sea link from Sochi to Trabzon are under consideration.
