The second vessel in Viking’s new ocean-class series, Viking Vesta, was formally handed over today at Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard. The delivery ceremony included the presence of Viking’s Chairman and CEO, Torstein Hagen, alongside Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of Fincantieri’s Merchant Ships Division.
Classified within the small cruise ship segment, Viking Vesta has a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 tons and features 499 cabins capable of accommodating 998 passengers.
It marks the 14th vessel delivered by Fincantieri to Viking, counting the two expedition ships constructed by Fincantieri’s Vard subsidiary.
Beyond this delivery, the partnership between Fincantieri and Viking now spans 28 vessels under contracts and options, subject to standard financing conditions.
Also under construction at Ancona is the pioneering Viking Libra, set for delivery in late 2026. This ship will be the first cruise vessel powered by onboard-stored hydrogen, enabling both propulsion and electrical generation with zero emissions—designed to voyage through environmentally sensitive regions. Her sister ship, Viking Astrea, due in 2027 from the same yard, will employ the same hydrogen technology.
All Viking vessels, including Viking Vesta, comply with current navigation and safety regulations. They are fitted with high-efficiency engines and systems to minimize exhaust emissions, aligning with the most stringent environmental standards.
