In the Baltic Sea on September 2nd, 2025, a cruise vessel encountered an onboard accident that required immediate medical attention.

The 2000-passenger ship AIDAdiva, operated by AIDA Cruises, triggered a swift response from the Latvian Navy Coast Guard when crew members reported the incident. Upon assessing the condition of the injured individual, authorities determined that evacuation to shore was imperative, as remaining aboard would delay care beyond what the ship could offer.

The patrol boat P-09 Rеzekne was dispatched to rendezvous with the cruise ship. The injured party—accompanied by the ship’s medical staff—was transferred to the patrol craft before it made full steam for Liepaja, where an ambulance stood by for further treatment.

The Navy’s press release emphasized the operation’s success, highlighting the cooperation between maritime and medical responders and calling it an effective demonstration of coordinated effort in assuring safety at sea.

AIDAdiva had embarked on a seven-day Baltic cruise from Rostock, Germany, on August 30th, with calls at Riga, Tallinn, Helsinki, and Stockholm preceding this emergency incident.
