New restrictions have been finalised by the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes and the Maritime Prefect of the Mediterranean to govern cruise-ship calls at the ports of Nice, Cannes and Villefranche in the Bay of Cannes.
Under the forthcoming prefectural decree, each port call will be limited to an annual average of 2,000 passengers disembarked per call, with a cap of 3,000.
Ships carrying more than 1,300 passengers will be restricted to one visit per day per port, and during July and August a maximum of 15 such visits will be permitted each month.
Priority will be given to lines that adhere to the “Sustainable Cruise in the Mediterranean” charter.
In the event of a pollution peak, further limits may be imposed on calls.
The regulations will enter into force following a 21-day electronic public consultation.
