Damen Shiprepair Brest has reached a significant milestone with the completion of its 50th cruise ship project since joining the Damen Shipyards Group in 2012.
Over the past decade, the yard has built a strong reputation for its expertise in complex cruise ship repairs and sustainable refits, reinforcing Damen’s broader ambition to lead the maritime industry toward a greener future.
Located near the English Channel and equipped with one of Europe’s largest drydocks, the Brest facility has become a key player in large-scale, environmentally conscious ship repair and maintenance. The yard’s efforts align with Damen’s corporate goal to become the world’s most sustainable and connected maritime solutions provider, implementing innovative technologies and sustainable practices across all divisions.
The recent completion of a major refit on the 340-metre Disney Fantasy marks the latest achievement in this ongoing effort. The project follows a similar refit carried out on the Disney Dream in 2024, further strengthening the yard’s relationship with major cruise operators.
Each project at Damen Shiprepair Brest integrates advanced efficiency-enhancing measures, such as improved propulsion and manoeuvring systems, the application of biocide-free hull coatings, and the in-house fabrication of 160-ton bulbous bows designed to reduce hydrodynamic resistance. These upgrades collectively support reduced emissions, improved fuel economy, and extended vessel longevity.
With a workforce of more than 180 skilled professionals and long-standing collaborations with key industry partners—such as Meyer RE of the MEYER Group—the yard continues to refine its sustainable approach to ship repair and refit operations.
Part of the 95-year-old Damen Shipyards Group, which operates 35 shipyards in 20 countries, Damen Shiprepair Brest embodies the company’s values of craftsmanship, stewardship, and innovation. Through its continuous investment in sustainable technologies and circular construction practices, Damen remains committed to shaping a cleaner and more efficient future for the global cruise and maritime sectors.
