Ponant Expeditions, in partnership with Smithsonian Journeys, has unveiled its 2027 collection of expert-led small-ship voyages. The new itineraries are designed to combine luxury travel with educational enrichment, featuring destinations such as Lisbon, Cabo San Lucas, and Osaka.
The program will commence with a 10-night voyage in the Sea of Cortez, departing roundtrip from Cabo San Lucas on February 10th, 2027. This expedition, focused on whale migration, will include guidance from marine and conservation biologists. A notable sailing will depart Lisbon on July 30th, 2027, aboard Le Boréal, positioning guests for an optimal view of a total solar eclipse at sea, with geological expertise provided throughout the journey.
Further itineraries include an 8-night voyage from Busan to Osaka exploring the cultural heritage of Japan and South Korea, and a Mediterranean journey from Nice to Valletta visiting islands such as Sicily and Corsica. A 7-night Baltic Sea cruise from Helsinki to Copenhagen will feature commentary on multiple UNESCO World Heritage sites. Other offerings include a Great Lakes itinerary between Toronto and Milwaukee, a classic Antarctic expedition from Ushuaia, and a voyage from Barcelona to Lisbon focusing on the historic sites of southern Spain and Portugal.
A defining characteristic of these voyages is the presence of Smithsonian experts, including geologists, historians, and biologists, who provide lectures and lead shore excursions. The partnership emphasizes a model of sustainable and experiential tourism, with itineraries structured to foster a deeper understanding of each region's cultural and natural heritage.
