China’s cruise shipbuilding sector has reached another development milestone with the float-out of Adora Flora City, the country’s second domestically built large cruise vessel.

The operation marks the transition from primary structural construction to the final phases of outfitting and testing before delivery.

The vessel is being constructed at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation/CSSC.

The successful float-out indicates that the hull and principal structural components have been completed and that the ship has moved from dry dock into the next stage of the construction process.

When completed, Adora Flora City will rank among the largest cruise ships built in China. The vessel has a gross tonnage of approximately 141,900 and will feature 16 passenger decks. Accommodation will be provided in 2,130 cabins, allowing the ship to carry up to 5,232 passengers at maximum capacity.

The design builds upon the experience gained during the construction of China’s first large domestically built cruise ship, Adora Magic City. However, Flora City is approximately 17.4 meters longer and incorporates expanded public spaces intended to enhance capacity and passenger flow.

In addition to structural and layout modifications, the ship will be equipped with upgraded environmental systems. These include additional exhaust gas desulfurization equipment and denitrification technology designed to reduce emissions and improve environmental performance during operations.
