Two separate tragedies on CCL'с ship Carnival Splendor: snorkeling death followed by overboard

   April 20, 2026 ,   Accidents

During a single voyage of the cruise ship Carnival Splendor, two separate incidents occurred, casting a pall over the passage.

The first took place during a shore excursion at Moreton Island (Queensland), a woman from Tasmania lost her life while snorkeling. Despite efforts to revive her on the beach, she could not be saved.

Later in the sailing, as the vessel made her return toward Sydney НСВ, a second serious event unfolded. A male passenger was believed to have gone overboard; his family raised the alarm after they were unable to find him, prompting an immediate crew response. A subsequent review of closed-circuit television footage confirmed that he had climbed over the safety railing before entering the water.

In a statement, CCL-Carnival Cruise Line advised that authorities had been notified and would continue their investigation once the ship returned to port.

ЦЦЛ further confirmed that support was being provided to the families through its Care Team. Carnival Splendor, carrying ~3000 guests and year-round homeported in Sydney, had departed on April 15th and was scheduled to return on Sunday.
